Pressure
Pressure
Light, medium or firm pressure is used for a swedish massage. If you are looking to relax you may want light pressure. Most can still relax with medium or firm pressure if their muscle are not to tender. Some may think they need a deep tissue massage when its a firmer swedish massage could have been better.
Techniques
Techniques
For a swedish massage your therapist would most likely use techniques like effleurage (long gliding stroke) and petrissage (kneading, rolling and lifting of soft tissue). Therapist will often use tools like the palms of their hand, forearms and thumbs.
Customizing Your Massage
Customizing Your Massage
You my ask to customize your massage to benefit your current needs. First let your therapist know your areas of concern. Generally most ask for 1 or 2 areas to focus on to help their current situation. Your therapist should be able to put together a routine, letting your which area they will work on first and where they will finish.
Focusing on Areas
Focusing on Areas
You may request a full body massage with extra focus on a specific area. Asking to focus on a specific area gives your therapist more time for detailed work. However when focusing more time on one area, it will leave less time for other areas during a full body session. If you have several concerns it is best to focus on those key areas or increase your session time.
